Born Learning
United Way Worldwide has partnered with the Ad Council, Civitas, and Families and Work Institute to create Born Learning. Born Learning is a public engagement campaign that helps parents, grandparents and caregivers explore ways to turn everyday activities into fun learning experiences. We are extremely pleased to receive funding from First 5 for this program.
Why is it important?
Children begin learning before they are born. During a child’s first years, the brain is developing rapidly. The foundation of learning is established during that time and is critical to a child’s development. Research indicates that children with high quality learning experiences in their first years are more likely to finish school, become part of a productive workforce and contribute to society and the economy.
As a child’s first and most important teacher, parents can easily turn everyday moments into fun and engaging learning opportunities. By doing so, they will give their child the best start possible. A child will be ready for school and equipped with social, emotional and cognitive skills that they will need to succeed.
How it works
Born Learning is an educational instrument that promotes awareness about the importance of the quality of early learning. It provides care givers with practical tools, resources and ideas to help them integrate learning into everyday moments such as doing laundry, grocery shopping and traveling. Read, use and share the researched based learning tools to make learning fun everyday!
